Electric Quilt 60 Degree Triangle Quilts

Electric Quilt 60 Degree Triangle Quilts

We love sharing tips and project files for designing in Electric Quilt with Inklingo shapes. Today it is a triangle project file from 2012 updated to EQ8.

It is a great time to do this during the Black Friday Event on Now at ElectricQuilt.com! Save 25% on ALL PRODUCTS now through Nov 30! Apply promo code EVERYTHING in cart for discount. Plus, free sticker with every shipped purchase while supplies last!

There are many Inklingo shape collections with 60-degree triangles. The shape collection with 2 and 4-inch 60° Triangles includes dozens of worksheets.

However, if you have Electric Quilt software, you can do so much more!

There are at least two ways to set up the worktable in EQ8. As usual, EQ gives you many options, so these are just suggestions.

New Quilt > One Patch > Layout > find Hexagon (H) and choose Lightning or Thousand Pyramids.

Everything is easier when it is set to music, don’t you think?

IMPORTANT NOTES BEFORE YOU CLICK TO PLAY THE MUSIC!

Monkey likes designing quilts and also likes redesigning lyrics like this:

When marimba rhythms start to play = With Electric Quilt I love to play
and
Dance with me, make me sway  = Quilt design, the best way
and
When we sway, I go weak = When I goof, control z

Get the idea? You also need to know (1) Louise is my Featherweight, (2) control z is a keyboard shortcut to undo the last action, (3) alt click is another keyboard shortcut, and (4) Michael Bublé is Canadian, like me.

Okay, now you can click to play, rock your shoulders at the keyboard while you listen, and read Monkey’s lyrics, okay?

When marimba rhythms start to play
With Electric Quilt I love to play
Quilt design, the best way
Like a lazy ocean hugs the shore
Test a crazy notion I adore
Edit then click some more

Like a flower bending in the breeze
Add Inklingo and Louise
Print fabric, sew with ease
When we dance, you have a way with me
When we play, serendipity
Stay with it? control z

Other fabrics are in libraries
Sketchbooks glow so vibrantly

When I goof, control z
I can hear the sounds of violins
I can hear the sound of new lessons
Long before I begin
Make me thrill with a new demo

templates for 60° triangles 2 and 4 inch

In Electric Quilt – Set the 60 degree Triangle Size

You must set the size according to the dimensions in the Inklingo shape collection you are using. This is important whether you are designing with triangles or any other Inklingo shape.

2-inch 60° Triangles are 1.73 inches high and 2 inches wide.
4-inch 60° Triangles are 3.46 inches high and 4 inches wide.

I include this info on the Notecards for Inklingo projects in the Sketchbook. It’s a good idea to make your own notes on the Notecards too.

print 60 degree triangles on fabric

Whatever you design in EQ will be easy to cut and sew when you print the shapes on fabric with Inklingo—no templates, no measuring, no weird rulers, AND a line to cut on, a line to sew on!

There are quilts in the project file, but it is still only the tip of the iceberg. It should be enough to get you started.

If you haven’t upgraded to EQ8 yet, you need to check out their special event for November 2022, okay?

You do NOT have to have EQ to use Inklingo but you do have to have EQ8 software to open this project file.

Inklingo 60° Diamond 1.75 inch Shape Collection

Inklingo Index of Shapes

Other 60° equilateral triangles are “hidden” in 60° Diamond shape collections because this triangle is . . . half of a 60° diamond (above).

To make sure you find all of the sizes, look at the Triangle page in the Index of Shapes.

There are TEN sizes available from 0.5 inch to 4 inch. Inklingo shapes are named with the finished size to make it easy.

There are other articles with info about designing with Equilateral Triangles too.

Monkey’s Lyrics

We have had a lot of fun designing in EQ and “redesigning” lyrics for several other songs.

Just for fun, you can sing along with Anne Murray (Snowbird), Willie Nelson (On the Road Again), The Pointer Sisters (Jump), Sting (Every Breath You Take), The Platters (Only You), Frank Sinatra (Swinging on a Star), Jimmy Cliff (I Can See Clearly Now), Tony Bennett (The Best is Yet to Come), Diana Krall (Fly Me to the Moon), Diana Krall (Let’s Fall in Love), Jimmy Soul (If You Wanna Be Happy), Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga (The Lady is a Tramp), Roy Orbison (Pretty Woman) and more.
