Monkey says, You asked for it! Here it is!
WHY 1.32 INCH?
Inklingo quilters requested a 1.32 inch Octagon to use with the diamonds, triangles, and squares in the free Inklingo shape collection.
They were inspired by Cathi’s design for an Octagon Star Doll Quilt on Quilt Obsession but did not want to make something that tiny. (She used Inklingo Octagon 0.75 inch.)
CATHI’S OCTAGON STARS
We wanted to make Cathi’s design too.
Monkey and I put on our thinking caps.
It made a lot of sense!
Great bunches of ideas started to flower.
We got very excited when we added the kite and other shapes.
It is springtime. Let’s do something new.
OCTAGONS WITH LESSONS
I am using this design for a series of lessons on the blog.
The lessons are free for:
- Inklingo beginners who want step-by-step instructions.
- Experienced quilters who would like to know more about designing with Inklingo shapes.
- Quilters who love a portable hand sewing project and like the idea of a change from hexagons.
- Quilters who want a design they can sew by machine.
- Quilters who want to learn how to combine hand and machine piecing in a “hybrid.”
- Quilters who want a pattern which tells them how much fabric to buy.
- Quilters who want to use scraps and stash.
- Quilters who want to learn how to figure out how much fabric to buy for their own designs.
- Quilters who want to use Electric Quilt.
- Quilters who want to color worksheets with markers.
- Quilters who are looking for design ideas.
- Quilters who are interested in fussy cutting with Inklingo!
- Quilters who want to share the experience with other Inklingoists online.
Does that include you?
INKLINGO PERIWINKLE QUILT
Monkey says you could call this a “reverse mystery.”
You know in advance what you are making, but the format will be similar to the Case of the Secret Garden mystery quilt (COTSG). The lessons give step-by-step instructions that everyone can complete together.
As usual, the new shapes are at a very special intro price—but for a limited time only!
Octagons are a refreshing change from hexagons, but they are familiar too.
Designing and sewing with octagons is similar to designing and sewing with hexagons, so when you buy this new shape collection I will add the Hexagon Quilt Design Book (70 pages, PDF), a $20 value!
There are no instructions in the new shape collection because the lessons on the blog, the design book, and the free Inklingo shape collection will be all you need. This is a new approach!
Are you subscribed?
If you don’t want to miss any of the lessons, you can enter your email address (right sidebar). You can always be the first to sew.
If you know quilters who are looking for an introduction to Inklingo, please let them know about the lessons. They will thank you later.

Beautiful quilt designs .
For all the Inklingoists in Australia, Freezer Paper is available from Punch with Judy by mail order. Not sure if Judy takes it to the Craft Fairs but I do know that she is very helpful and obliging with getting craft supplies to her customers the most economical way.
I am a real newbie, and had to enlist Linda’s help and then my husbands technical know how to do my first print on fabric and it Worked! now to make something.
Really want to do the Periwinkle quilt, maybe a dolly’s quilt for my first try?
Whooppee!!!! I LOVE page 3 of the new Periwinkle Octo’ Collection! I am printing an extra copy of page 3 to layer with some various colored construction paper and then cutting out the shapes [sans s.a.]. I find this helpful in designing and deciding how to use the shapes… it is sew fun! I’ve been doing this since the first CD, except this time each shape is illustrated with a different ‘texture’. It will make IDing them so easy! Thank you Linda and Monkey for another great collection!
ps: I keep and store these shapes in a plastic sheet protector in one of my Inklingo binders. In a pinch, I can use them to mark a s.a. on a dark and hard to print fabric [ala QD style]. I always know where the lines are! lol
Now don’t you need to make these shapes coordinate with the other larger Inklingo octagons in the Feathered Star collections?
Only in your spare time, of course…

Love Love Love!!!
Another wonderful collection, just purchased it and can’t wait to get started on a project with this. I also can’t wait to get all my fabric out of storage, but that’s a whole other story lol.
How absolutely gorgeous is this new set.You really are Inklingo wizards Linda and Monkey.
What a beautiful collection Linda and Monkey
I would like to get in on the intro price but am out of town until after April 11. Can I order and then pay when I am back home?
I understand if it woudn’t work but if so just let me know. I do get to read my email.
Cathie in UT
Your periwinkle version reminds me of the forget-me-nots in Alaska. Such tiny flowers for such a big state. Beautiful.
How beautiful, I always admire Cathies work. I just got the Shape Collection 3 and wanted to start on it. Can I still take the classes and download them for later? I want to get my applecore finished before I start another thing.
Barb has me pegged — totally in 7th heaven! But not going to have a totally pieced king-sized quilt done by tomorrow! LOL I’d like to be able to do that, but …
It is a stunning collection, Linda. The possibilities have had me almost paralyzed — so many choices! I’ve got about 3 stacks of fabrics sitting in front of me wanting to play. :-))
Love the quilt! Just one question – how big is the finished size?
Oh, my!!! I bet Cathi is in 7th heaven today, seeing this fabulous new collection. I predict a totally pieced king-sized quilt on her blog tomorrow, using this new shape collection! LOL! Am I correct that with this collection and the free shape collection we could make Cathi’s Octagon Stars – only bigger? I think I HAVE to have this one. Linda, you have knocked my socks off once again. BEAUUUUUTIFUL!
