The designs in Millefiori Quilts 1 are not just for quilters who like English Paper Piecing (EPP).

Willyne sews with a running stitch to make her exceptional quilts. Some quilters are using EPP instead.

Why I don’t sell acrylic templates

Whether you use Inklingo or not, you do not need acrylic templates for any of Willyne’s designs, just the book, some freezer paper, and your favorite fabrics.

Sewing by hand with a running stitch is less expensive than EPP, Freezer paper also works better than acrylic for fussy cutting.

Every one of Willyne’s designs in Millefiori Quilts is exceptional! When you have an Inklingo shape collection for Millefiori Quilts, you can start AND finish Willyne’s elaborate designs in a reasonable amount of time.

Millefiori Quilts 1 All Around the World

We are very lucky to be quilters in the twenty-first century! Willyne was born and lives in The Netherlands and she named her book Millefiori which is Italian for a thousand flowers. She was inspired by the tiling designs of an English mathematician and the book was published by Quiltmania in France. Then it was shipped across the Atlantic, so I can mail it from the USA (Niagara Falls NY) to you—wherever you are in the world.

Not only that, but now you can order and download Inklingo shape collections for many of the designs from my site in Canada.

Love the lines. Quilt more!

GOOD NEWS  The quilts in the Millefiori books are not just for quilters who like English Paper Piecing.

Willyne hand pieces with a running stitch—and NOT English Paper Piecing, as I originally thought. MessyJesse took a class from Willyne Hammerstein and shares photos on her blog.

“I have been brainwashed recently into thinking I needed to EPP everything (hurts my hands) or buy expensive templates! I really enjoyed your post on why they aren’t necessary!” Elaine in England

Sewing pentagons and diamonds is similar to sewing hexagons, so you can follow those instructions for continuous stitching by hand, precision machine piecing, and hybrid piecing (hand + machine) for the best of both worlds. Speed AND portability.

If you intend to sew by machine, choose the larger sizes.

Learn to Hand Piece

The two-hour hand piecing lesson in Quilted Diamonds 2 is like taking a private lesson from me. The beautiful book and DVD are available again.

There are also hand piecing videos on my YouTube channel.

GOOD NEWS The brilliance of Willyne’s design is in the way she used the shapes to create interlocking designs. She teaches hand piecing with a running stitch.

It is NOT necessary to use EPP unless that is the method you prefer. It is much easier to print the shapes on fabric with Inklingo and sew with a running stitch.

On the other hand, there are 8 Good Ways to Use Inklingo for EPP if that is the method you prefer.

The three videos below focus on other designs but the info also applies to designs in the Millefiori Quilts books.

  1. Missy (verified owner)

I just received this book for my birthday from my son and it is gorgeous! I cannot stop looking at it. These quilts are so different, the shapes are nothing like anything else I have seen put into a quilt.

  2. Cathi (verified owner)

This is a fabulous book – loads of inspiration in these pages. Lots and lots of quilts to spend hours pouring over. It’s a great addition to a quilter’s library!
