Sew the Let’s Twist Again Quilt

Let's Twist Again Millefiori Quilts 5

Starting a quilt like this may look intimidating unless you print the shapes on fabric—and start with the confidence that everything will fit together perfectly.

The cover quilt on Willyne’s new Millefiori Quilts 5 looks intricate and it is an amazing tesselation.

Monkey says if you are afraid of a possible UFO, you need the new Inklingo shape collection PDF (and the book, of course). You can finish a masterpiece like this.

Willyne includes at least one awesome fussy cutting possibility like this one. I sewed this one by hand, so I could “circle the intersection” to get a perfect match in the center—and because it is front-porch-sewing weather here now.

The center of this unit is a variation of 4-patch and can be sewn by machine. I add the 4 diamonds by hand to get a little more lovely continuous stitching but if you are really in a hurry to finish, you can sew crosshair to crosshair by machine.

“In excellent spirits, with fresh hopes and fresh schemes,” I see diamonds everywhere! (Northanger Abbey Ch 9)

There are lots and lots of these and . . .

I simplified the color scheme for my sample, thanks to the wonderful line drawing in Millefiori Quilts 5. Quiltmania listens to quilters, so there is a line drawing like this for each of the 17 exquisite designs in the book.

My variation has white space where there is turquoise. I am using fewer fabrics.

Inklingo is brilliant for designs like this. It looks complex but there are only 6 shapes, and 4 basic units

The Inklingo Let’s Twist Again PDF is 424 pages and opens with Adobe Reader. There are layouts with different straight grain and layouts for directional fabric. All the shapes have precision corners. It also includes fabric requirements.

Most Inklingo quilters will sew all of these shapes by hand with a running stitch (like Willyne) but there are layouts without seam allowances too, just in case you want to print your own templates for English Paper Piecing. (8 Good Ways)
