I had my first experience with sewing on a machine before I was old enough to go to kindergarten, and I love machine piecing, hand piecing, and appliqué.
However, Monkey is famous as a hand piecing snob, thanks to my first Quilted Diamonds books—more than ten years ago already!
IS THAT THE HAND PIECING SNOB?
Yes! Now, even Monkey has to admit that hexagons are fun to sew by machine too—thanks to Inklingo.
The movie shows how to sew hexagons by machine for a GFG (Grandmother’s Flower Garden) quilt. (If you click the little icon at the lower right, you can watch full screen.)
I used red thread and printed the lines a little darker than usual to make it camera-friendly.
The lovely “Vintage Rosie” fabric was provided by Patti Carey, the Marketing Director at Northcott Fabric. Even the fabric with the black background is light enough on the wrong side to print easily with Inklingo.
We think you will agree that sewing inset seams by machine is easy when you have lines printed on the fabric with Inklingo.

We are in the mood for hexagons these days, thanks to the 4 new Inklingo hexagon shape collections announced yesterday, so stay tuned for more, including tips for designing hexagon quilts in Electric Quilt software.
Until next time, these links should keep you busy.

Monkey’s newest movie turned out pretty well, don’t you think? Did you see Monkey’s “Moment of Zen?” at the very end?
Have you seen our other movies on YouTube? Monkey says this one our best so far.
Are you subscribed?
If you don’t want to miss anything, you can enter your email address (right sidebar), so you will always be the first to know. You can also subscribe to YouTube, of course.
REMINDER
As usual, the new hexagon shapes are at a very special intro price—but for a few days only!
We would love it if you would tell your friends in person and online (Yahoo and other groups) about the new movie. Monkey says they will thank you later—maybe even machine piece a hexie quilt for you!
See you soon!

Thanks, Peggy. I am glad you like it. I hand piece the little ones and machine piece the big ones. Monkey doesn’t normally do any machine piecing, but when I look into his eyes I can tell he is interested now. 🙂
Wow,Linda,Monkey and Russ, what a great video. I learned lots. This week I am going to attempt to sew some by machine. I am a beginning hand piecing snob, but will give it a try. Nice Video.
Keep up the great work!!

Hi Elly,
THANK YOU for sharing the video on your blog and on FB. It makes a difference.
The machine is a Pfaff 7550. I bought it new in 1990 or 1991. It was a big decision at the time, but I still love it. I can’t imagine how many miles I have sewn on it—quilting, clothes, home dec, crafts, etc. I have had it cleaned a few times, but it has never needed a repair.
When I bought the Pfaff, I gave my old Singer to a teenage friend who I taught to sew and she still uses it. (Her mother doesn’t sew.) It never occurred to me that I could need two sewing machines. Now, I know several quilters who have three or four (or more)! This one beautiful machine is fine for me. If I bought another one, it would have to have a great walking foot. Very important.
I hope you have a great weekend with time to sew. Thank you for helping to spread the word about Inklingo.
Hugs,
Linda & Monkey
EXCELLENT!! I have shared it on my blog and will now share it on FB. Thank you so much Linda and Monkey! I love tip about printing on scrap then checking the stitch length so it fits exactly. What machine do you use?
Well done you two. I haven’t sewn hexes by machine before but I am going to give it a try now that you have made it look sew easy. Inklingo has turned me into a hand piecing snob though.
Thank you, Cathie! It all helps.
Very well done but I think that Monkey needs a bit more screen time LOL
I have shared on my Facebook so hope it helps spread the word!
Well, Annika, in that case, do you think we would tell? LOL
That little camera did a good job, don’t you think?
Thank you Linda, Monkey and Russ, for this great video!
Very clear instructions and very great detail in the video. I am very curious to know what Monkey was whispering at the end.
The way you laugh, I think it may have been something naughty? Tsk, tsk… 😉
WOW! The video is so clear and precise I was wondering how you filmed it! Then I saw the “Moment of Zen” at the end which revealed all… Amazing what these tiny cameras can do! But more amazing is how you, Monkey, and the “Very Quiet Man” continue to share your expertise, and wonderful tips with us year after year, working so hard to make sure they are just Perfect! We enjoy them so much!!!
Thank you!!!
I’m still wondering what Monkey’s Zen suggestion was. 😀
Great video Linda and Monkey. I have not tried sewing Hexes by machine yet. But now I will need to give a go.
Keep up the great work.
Bruce
Great movie. I am a handpiecing snob so will not attempt this myself but there are a lot of people that prefer machine so this is great for them.
Thanks,
Hi, Cyn! Yes, that would be great! Everyone is welcome to post the link to the video on All About Inklingo on a blog–or even go to YouTube to embed the video itself on a blog or website. I encourage it. It is a wonderful way to spread the word about Inklingo. THANK YOU.
Excellent. I think this vid will encourage more people to try Inklingo. Not everyone enjoys hand-piecing [what????] and this vid clearly shows we can sew by machine as well. I expecially enjoy the hybrid technique — probably my favorite. Thanks Linda and Monkey for another winning vid. Can we post this link on our blogs??
This is a great Monkey movie! It has me convinced to try stitching some hexagons by machine – in fact, I think I’ll print some larger hexagons in the next day or two for that very purpose!
