Clamshell

Print Clamshell on fabric

Print Clamshell shapes on fabric instead of using templates for better results.

Even experienced quilters sometimes avoid sewing curves, but the precise
stitching lines and matching marks—printed on the fabric with Inklingo—make a big difference.

There are several variations available. Please click on the covers for more info.

I designed many of the Clamshell shape collections as a result of requests from quilters.

1. Wonderful Clamshell Quilt Designs

I was inspired by a spectacular set of quilted bed hangings in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (V&A). You can see photos of it in several books, including:
Kaffe Fassett’s Museum Quilts (2005), especially pages 44-49
Quilts 1700-2010 Hidden Histories, Untold Stories, edited by Sue Prichard, V&A Publishing (2010), especially page 164

There are also images the Victoria & Albert Museum site. Search for item 242-1908.

2. Clamshell Pickle Quilt Design

Barbara Brackman wrote about an “Unknown Pattern” on her wonderful
Material Culture blog. Who could resist?

This is a rare design because it is difficult to sew without Clam Shell quilt
templates from Inklingo. With Inklingo, the arcs of triangles are perfect for chain piecing by machine, or for continuous stitching* by hand.

*Turn a corner at the end of every seam and continue stitching without
breaking the thread. (Illustrated in the shape collections)
