Update on Postage for Overseas Quilters

GOOD NEWS!

Russ has been a good sleuth. Overseas quilters can save money on postage.

Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC)  POTC      Jane Austen Patchwork Mystery  JAPM

We can send POTC and JAPM by First Class International mail in a large white envelope to save you $10 or more.

In the past, the flat rate Global Priority envelopes were the best choice for fast delivery and price, but the price increased to $23.95 (previous message).

(It’s a good thing Inklingo shape collections are downloadable!!)

IMPORTANT FOR OVERSEAS QUILTERS

As usual, you pay what I pay without a handling fee.

  1. When you order POTC or JAPM (or both), the shopping cart adds $23.95 for postage automatically.
  2. I will send your order in a large white envelope instead of a Global Priority envelope as long as it saves you money.
  3. When the actual postage is less than $23.95, the difference is refunded to you. You pay what I pay.
  4. First Class International may take a few days longer to be delivered but the savings are big (examples below).
  5. If you prefer to have your order sent by Global Priority even if First Class would cost less, please leave a comment when you place the order. I will include 2 sheets of freezer paper (18 x 18, heavy paper)  if there is room because the weight doesn’t affect the price.
  6. I am happy to price the postage for you in advance, if you prefer.

EXAMPLES

These apply for England, Australia, and many other countries.

Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC)  POTC Save $14.25.

POTC  First Class International – $9.70 instead of $23.95.

Jane Austen Patchwork Mystery  JAPM Save $12.55.

JAPM First Class International – $11.40 instead of $23.95.

Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC)   AND     Jane Austen Patchwork Mystery   Save $10.85.

POTC + JAPM First Class International – $13.10 instead of $23.95.

(Similar for 2 POTC or 2 JAPM)

USPS RATE INCREASE

I wrote about the huge increase in US Post Office rates on the blog in January, when postage to Australia, Europe, and Asia jumped $7.00 from $16.95 to $23.95 for the flat rate Global Priority envelope.

The rates for Large White Envelopes vary according to weight, whether the clerk thinks it is rigid or not, and the USPS “price groups” for different countries.

We are trying to save you money!

The “rigid test” seems to be at the discretion of the clerk. Today, Russ was told that our examples were flexible enough. If we get a clerk who says no, the rate jumps by more than $5.

Inklingo # 3 book & CD   The Inklingo Handbook   Quilted Diamonds

Inklingo # 3, The Inklingo Handbook, and Quilted Diamonds 1 are heavier and thicker (more rigid), so the savings are minimal or none. We will continue using the Global Priority envelopes. We can fit two of these books in the flat rate envelope.

We will always do our best to find the best combination of price and service. If you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I am happy to help.

I hope that takes some of the mystery out of overseas postage.

COTSG Case of the Secret Garden

Next, back to our regularly scheduled Case of the Secret Garden mystery quilt. Everything for that is downloadable, so it is even simpler—no postage at all!

  1. Hi Linda,
You and Monkey and Russ really do think of everything! I can’t thank you enough for the information regarding postage as it is only one of the expenses we have to factor in when purchasing anything on line here in South Africa. In addition to the postage, anything we purchase online is also subjected to a Customs tax of almost 40% of value of item purchased. I thank you and God for making so much downloadable here instead of having to post and pay. I also enjoy the tips such as making things bigger if one is arthritic.
We love you and Inklingo so much!!

  2. Hola Linda,
Thank you so much for that excellent information. I will make a note of it for future orders. Even though for European quilters it is quite cheap to buy on US websites compared to those in our own country due to exchange rates with Euro vs US Dollar, the shipping rates always end up making it even more expensive. So thank you again for this wonderful news.
    Un abrazo, Conchita

  3. Hi Kat,
That is useful info. Wow. Thank you very much! When Russ took our samples in yesterday, the clerk did not explain it as well as you do. Russ is on a first name basis with the staff and likes to be prepared with everything to be considerate of them and anyone waiting behind him.
I just performed the tests and our envelopes are good, but I am going to print the instructions, so Russ will have them with him “just in case” there is any discussion.
It was very good of you to help! Thank you!
    Hugs,
    Linda & Monkey

  4. Linda,
I just read this and I used to work for the USPS. The ‘rigid’ test is not subjective. Here is a link to show you how to check AND to show the clerk you know what you are talking about. Due to many cuts at USPS, a great many of us that know what we are doing are no longer doing it.
