Double Wedding Ring Quilts with On Point Settings

A Chance to Win and 5 TIPS!

How about a little more fun with Double Wedding Ring?

And a chance to win the shape collection? OR a $40 Inklingo Gift Certificate?

You don’t have to be an expert quilter with a ton of patience to sew DWR anymore. Just print the shapes on fabric with Inklingo!

Today there are more Double Wedding Ring Quilt designs to inspire you and 5 tips to help you sew one.

This design has arcs with 8 pieces (plus ends). Impressive!

TIP 1  Use the unique pressing guide in the Double Wedding Ring Design Book to press the seams in the right direction—and to check the size of the arcs!

This is the same design with a few little tweaks. Approx 52 x 52 inches.

ON-POINT SETTINGS

For me, the real magic happens when the blocks are turned on point.

This design is about 72 x 72.  Wouldn’t it look lovely on a bed with another row of DWR all the way around (96 x 96)?

TIP 2  Use the worksheets in the Double Wedding Ring Design Book OR the Double Wedding Ring Electric Quilt project file to find the finished size of your design.

Double Wedding Ring Quilts with an on-point design can be finished with a straight edge.

TIP 3 This half center is provided in two Inklingo layouts to print on fabric. Print the one with straight grain on the long side if you are using it on the outside edge of the quilt.

On-point with a medallion effect. Having a variety of centers with appropriate straight grain makes it possible.

This one uses the half center with straight grain on the long side.

TIP 4 You can put a Double Wedding Ring Border on any quilt! Had you thought of that?

All of the arcs in this one are identical, but . . .

. . .you can use more than one kind of arc in each quilt. So many choices!

I went with Russ to Niagara Falls NY yesterday to mail book orders. It was the perfect day to walk in Niagara-on-the-Lake too—without the weekend crowds. The spring flowers and blossoms are glorious right now. I came home inspired to try one more design.

I’ll call this one Blossoms in Niagara on the Lake.

If you compare these designs with those in the two previous messages, you will see why I love on-point settings so much.

\

TIP 5 You can have 7 pieces (plus ends) in each arc by using two different sizes. That’s what I did for my blossoms design.

  1. My favorite way to piece. I’m working on my Drunkards trail right now and waiting for at least one more NYB before I start that, but I sure would love to do a DWR. I’ve got lot of floral scraps from my Pickled Clamshells , that would be pretty.
I spent the last week away at Quilts of Denmark and took my Drunkard’s Trail sample…spent a lot of time talking about Inklingo!!!!
You sure changed my life! Thanks so much Linda!!

  3. These are fabulous and I would have a hard time deciding which layout to use. I have a UFO wedding ring that I started last fall and I am wondering if I could convert it over to Inklingo. How can I find out if the same size pieces and curves are the same? Maybe if I won I could compare. I also think I may do a different layout since you have inspired me and thankfully it’s not too late.

  7. DWR is one of my favorite desigsn. I love all the different design choices you show. I am not good at createing my own designs so like seeing all of those. I would love to make one soon.

  8. I love the straight edges you get when the blocks are on point. Think of all the time saved by doing the straight edge binding compared to the multiple inner and outer corners of the straight set design? I’ll save more time than I’ll spend printing out a whole quilt using Inklingo! That’s my favorite kind of trade-off. 🙂 Thanks Linda!

  10. Can’t tell you how many templates and patterns for DWR that I have purchased over the years and still they seem like an intimidating block. I saw some fabric on sale today that is just screaming DWR. Got to get the fabric and the ‘inklingo’. Darn I’ve just created another UFO to get started on this…..oh well

  12. I learned how nice the DWR on point setting was when I was designing for the Love the Lines contest. I hadn’t thought of a DWR border though! Thanks for giving us an opportunity to win.

  13. I just love your double wedding ring patterns. I have completed hand piecing two double wedding ring quilts using your dwr collection. I am now hand quilting them, with my sisters help. I thought that would be the only quilts that I would be making with this collection. But I might be wrong. After seeing all of your examples and possibilities of what can be done with this collection. So many settings that I have never thought of. One setting that I have never thought of, or ever seen, was to use double wedding ring as a border. I can see that possibly in a future quilt. Thank you for all that you do for us. Your work is greatly appreciated by everyone.

  23. Thank you Linda for another generous offer… The DWR has always been my favorite as well. Unfortunately I kept it in ‘hard to do’ basket….But, ever since I discovered Inklingo that basket is slowly but surely becoming empty…

  24. I’m really enjoying these options for the DWR and others you’ve shared with us lately. It never crossed my mind to use a variety of arcs – I wouldn’t have thought you could do that. In addition, the half-center option is another artistic option that seriously would never have crossed my mind.

I don’t have EQ so I really appreciate these things you have going on, Linda!!! Truly.

  32. Linda – Your timing with the DWR is perfect for me. I’m using the 4 piece arc for the wedding quilt for my grandson. I plan a medallion setting with the DWR and nearly have the center all finished. So great with Inklingo. Thanks for all your tips! Enter me in the contest please. I’d love to be able to get the NYB design next!

  33. Wow, you’ve opened my eyes to the DWR again! You know I want to make one, I think I pushed for this collection to be available. It is going to be in the making here in a few months. Must, must finish the Insanity first. I guess I’m going to have to purcahse EQ so I can take advantage of all the designing tools available. I love the On Point look. Thanks for all the tips.

  40. Hi, Linda. What are you doing to me? I bought the DWR awhile ago and it’s been on the back burner, but how can I resist the Blossoms in Niagara on the Lake? I, also, love on point quilts.

  41. I always wanted to make a DWR and Inklingo is the only sane way to do it! I printed my pressing guide on fabric (where could that idea come from?), fused the two sheets together and zig-zagged around the edges. Now I have a really sturdy two-sided pressing template.
