Sharon Burgess’ Celestial Star design is fabulous for fussy cutting!
Last night I wanted to get a Celestial Star “Color Burst” unit ready to sew this weekend because I know I will be watching hurricane coverage.
I need something to do with my hands. You too?
So, I prepared a cheat sheet . . .
. . . and cut the freezer paper . . .
. . . and printed 56 of the shapes on 5 sheets of fabric.
(Actually, I printed 6 because I changed my mind about one fabric.)
FUSSY CUT WITH TEMPLATES
I also fussy cut the Octagon and 8 Jewels using the freezer paper template method I teach for POTC and Passacaglia.
I write about fussy cutting a lot because there are TWO methods with Inklingo.
I often prefer to use “No Waste Fussy Cutting” but this time I printed the shapes without seam allowances on freezer paper with Inklingo to make templates.
Even if you don’t use Inklingo, you don’t need to buy templates because you can trace the shapes from the Quilting on the Go book to make freezer paper templates—which have every advantage over acrylic.
(If you are sewing with EPP, you can increase the size of the seam allowance with this method too!)
Freezer paper is better than acrylic in every way. (Details)
I blew my own plan because I finished sewing and pressing the Color Burst before bedtime. Ooops.
Even taking dozens of photos along the way, it only took a few hours to sew all 65 shapes.
I need a few more to sew during the hurricane this weekend.
Time to print some more.
Using Inklingo is the fastest, most precise way to prepare the shapes and even faster to sew.
THREE CELESTIAL STAR SHAPE COLLECTIONS
INTRO PRICE ONLY $25
By the way, many quilters have asked me about the three sizes in the Celestial Star shape collections, so I added info to the website:
As usual, Inklingo octagons (and other shapes) are named with the length of the sides (finished):
100% Octagon 1.66 inch each side (4 inches across)
75% Octagon 1.24 inch each side (3 inches across)
125% Octagon 2.07 inch each side (5 inches across)
The shapes in the collections are accurate to 4 decimal points but I rounded them to 2 decimal points in the written instructions.
If you are new to Inklingo, this VIDEO on the Welcome to Inklingo page on the website explains how to print on fabric with your Inkjet printer.
I sewed some seams by hand and some seams by machine!
ARE YOU SUBSCRIBED?
I’m going to show how to chain piece some seams by machine and continuous stitching by hand and I have more to say about Sharon’s beautiful book, so please subscribe (top of right side-bar), so you won’t miss anything.

PLEASE DONATE TO THE RED CROSS
Have you made a donation to the Red Cross? The need is huge and getting bigger all the time.
I have extended the offer for another week. If you donate at least $15 to the American Red Cross between September 3 and September 17 and let me know (linda @ www.inklingo.com), I will give you the new Clamshell Edges 3.5 inch shape collection, FREE.
Russ and I spent up to six months every year in Naples Florida for many years. We are very worried about everyone in the path of Hurricane Irma, especially on the west coast. I’ll be glued to the TV again today, nervously printing and sewing.
Be safe, wherever you are.

You are very welcome, Kathi! Thank you very much for your order. I hope you find exactly the fabric you want. I would love to see photos of your blocks when you get started.
Awwww. Thank you, KC! I’m glad you like it!
You are amazing…
Great block. Love it!
What fabrics are you using? Especially for the center piece. I am loving that fabric/pattern!
Thanks.
Hi Kathy,
I’m glad you like it. That fabric is Robert Kaufman Imperial Collection design #13753. I’ve had it for a few years but you might be able to find it somewhere. There were a few different colorways.
Thanks, Linda, for the reply to my question about the fabric. I will start searching for it.
Very pretty color choices, Linda! This block looks amazing with fussy cutting!
