What a wonderful way to relax and sew!

I enjoyed every stitch so much that I made 15 of these POTC blocks—using the Winding Ways book!

In my excitement, I took lots of photos and designed a special offer.

The Winding Ways book—despite the name—is perfect for anyone making Lucy Boston’s Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC). Monkey says you should scroll all the way down for an irresistible offer too!

It is easy to underestimate how much you will use this book if you think it is just for Winding Ways.

  • How to fussy cut POTC hexagons
  • How to determine fabric requirements
  • How to hybrid piece, sewing sew some seams by hand and some seams by machine

This book is fabulous even if you don’t print on fabric with Inklingo because there are complete instructions for freezer paper templates too. (What was I thinking? Easy answer. I was thinking about enabling you to make your best quilts.)

Fussy Cutting with Freezer Paper Templates

Use traditional fussy cutting with two-part freezer paper templates as described for Winding Ways.

Inklingo for fabric requirements

Do you have enough fabric? It is important!

I was able to determine that I could get all of the shapes I needed from one fat quarter of this fabric—which was good because that is all I had.

Print POTC hexagons

The printing goes fast, so you can have stacks of hexagons ready to sew on the go.

Always be sewing!

  1. I am using the hybrid approach on my patchwork of the cross. I learned of it in your Winding Ways book, which I own in hardcover, and the Lucy Boston book that you wrote. I do appreciate having a inklingo for printing my hexagons.

  2. That is such a pretty POTC! It has been fun watching you make that on FB. Your house must just be a quilter’s paradise with all the beautiful quilts you’ve been hanging up!

THe Winding Ways book is worth its weight in gold, imo. I love looking through it. That and the Six Simple steps with Scraps, particularly the Monkey Whispers? What a fabulous bonus!
