BALLET WITH KAFFE FASSETT - 1.5 INCH (WILLYNE HAMMERSTEIN)
PDF DOWNLOAD - SHAPES 28.6 MB + DESIGN BOOK
Print shapes on fabric with any ordinary Inkjet printer.
Ballet is the exquisite quilt on the cover of Millefiori Quilts 2 by Willyne Hammerstein (see cover below), published by Quiltmania. Quilters asked for the design to be made Inklingo-able, to make it even easier to sew with a running stitch, and Quiltmania graciously agreed.
The shapes are larger than the templates in the book. The original 3 cm size (1.18 inch) is also available. See the Main Millefiori Page.
Most quilters hand piece this design, but you can machine piece, if you prefer.
SEPTEMBER 2017 - The diamonds are also used for Moncarapacho in Millefiori Quilts 3 and in Wild is the Wind in Millefiori Quilts 1.

This Inklingo shape collection does not include instructions. Sewing diamonds and kites into rosettes is similar to sewing hexagons, so when you order this shape collection, you also receive the Hexagon Quilt Design Book ($20 value, PDF download). There are short videos showing how to sew hexagons by hand or by machine on the Main Hexagon Page.
However, there is an added layer of complexity with Ballet with Kaffe Fassett because the rosettes interlock and overlap each other.
Detailed diagrams for the rosettes and assembling the quilt top are in Willyne’s Millefiori Quilts 2 book.
A CHOICE OF SIZES
The shapes are larger than the ones in the book. The same shapes are also available with 3 cm sides, which is the size Willyne used. See the Main Millefiori Page.
Love the lines. Quilt more!
LEARN TO HAND PIECE
If you are learning how to hand piece, Quilted Diamonds 2 is the book I recommend because it includes the two-hour DVD lesson for the price of a book alone. It is a great value.
The DVD is like taking a private lesson with me. Discover the advantages of sewing with a running stitch!
The brilliance of the design is in the way Willyne used the shapes to create interlocking rosettes. She teaches hand piecing with a running stitch.
It is NOT necessary to use EPP unless that is the method you prefer.
It is much easier to print the shapes on fabric with Inklingo (TWO methods of fussy cutting) and sew with a running stitch. You can probably start and finish 3 rosettes with Inklingo in the time it would take to make ONE with EPP.
On the other hand, there are 8 Good Ways to Use Inklingo for EPP if that is the method you love.
There is video on the Main Diamond Page showing how to "circle the intersection" in the center of a six-pointed star. This technique works beautifully for ten-pointed stars too!
WILD IS THE WIND
The diamonds in this shape collection can also be used to make Wild is the Wind, another of the beautiful designs in Millefiori Quilts (first book) by Willyne Hammerstein.
