LeMoyne Star 3 inch has been added to the Main Stars Page! Let’s make some stars!
I started this shape collection almost a year ago but was distracted by other requests.
Marcus Fabrics Subtle Skies and the newly reprinted Quilted Diamonds 2 (book and DVD) inspired me to sew some samples and finish!—so you can start sewing too!
The window template showed me that the design in Subtle Skies had the right scale to be perfect for Inklingo No Waste Fussy Cutting these diamonds.
As I put the finishing touches on the new LeMoyne Star 3 inch shape collection, I also realized how useful the lessons in Quilted Diamonds 2 (book and DVD) are for these small stars.
You can make this 6 inch block with the new shape collection too!
By printing only 8 sheets of diamonds, I had enough diamonds for 42 fussy cut stars to sew by hand, a fabulous portable project! Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars!
SIZES
If you are new to Inklingo, 0.88 inch diamonds may sound strange but it is exactly the right size for a 3 inch finished block.
All Inklingo shapes are named with the finished size. Index of Shapes
With Inklingo we are not limited to “easy to measure” shapes or templates because we print precise shapes on fabric.
HOW TO SEW THE STARS
I love sewing with a running stitch because one simple technique works for ANY design and any shape—hexagons, diamonds, pentagons, squares, triangles, and on and on.
The two-hour DVD lesson with the Quilted Diamonds 2 book is like taking a private hand piecing lesson with me. It covers everything you need to know about hand piecing including:
- choosing fabric
- needles, thread, threading the needle, quilter’s knot
- rotary cutting
- sewing kits
- running stitch
- sewing sequence
- mirror image
- pinning
- scant quarter inch seams
- continuous stitching
- circling the intersection
- inset seams
- sewing curves
- pressing & trimming
- designing with diamonds and hexagons, etc.
Hand piecing should be relaxing and portable and it can be easier to get precise results than by machine.
Quilted Diamonds 2 is the book that inspired me to invent Inklingo. I reprinted QD2 this spring because I hear from so many quilters who have recently been introduced to English Paper Piecing but find it too slow or too tedious or too hard on their hands/wrists or who don’t like the look of it from the front.
When you learn how to sew with a running stitch, you can sew anything!
Too slow and imprecise for me:
English Paper Piecing (English Paper Piecing Rescue!)
Slow & precise & relaxing:
Freezer paper templates and a running stitch (the method in QD2)
Faster & relaxing with ultimate precision:
Print on fabric with Inklingo and sew with a running stitch (the method in QD2)
Even if you don’t intend to sew one of the 101 beautiful diamond designs in the beautiful 144 page book (and I think you will), the QD2 DVD is worth the price.
FACEBOOK VS THE BLOG—ARE YOU SUBSCRIBED?
If you are following Inklingo on FB, you knew this new shape collection was coming today!
You do NOT have to have a Facebook account to see what I post there if you go directly to
https://www.facebook.com/inklingo
However, Facebook only shows my photos to about 20% of the quilters who have “liked” the Inklingo Facebook Page, so the best way to stay up to date is to subscribe to the blog (top of right sidebar).
I hope you will have a look at the photos I have posted in the last week or so.
If you are on Facebook, please “like” and “comment” and “share” my photos. It makes it more fun for everyone.
