If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life

Sew Basket quilt block with Inklingo

This time it’s all about Singer Featherweights (model 221) and an Inklingo Basket quilt block. If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life, sing with me . . .

. . . to the music of Jimmy Soul (# 1 in 1963)

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
Get a featherweight with an LED light.
So from my personal point of view
Get a two-two-one to quilt with you.

If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
Get a featherweight with an LED light.
So from my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you
Get a two-two-one and Inklingo too.

If you have been following me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I am besotted with my “new” Featherweight, Louise, and that I went from zero to two Featherweights in only 8 days. (Long story.)

A pretty woman makes her husband look small
So go ahead and sew with a two-two-one
It’s how this quilter has some fun.
And from my personal point of view
Get an Inkjet and Inklingo too.

Machine piece basket handle

Basket Quilt Block with Machine Pieced Handle

Last night Louise and I sewed my first curves for pieced handles on a Basket quilt block and she purred. Magical.

So go ahead and sew with a two-two-one
It’s how this quilter has her fun.
And from my personal point of view
Add a husband who cooks for you.

Monkey, Louise, Marion, and I have been entertaining ourselves while Russ makes BLTs. You cannot beat same-day-picked tomatoes and very crispy Canadian bacon (It is MUCH crispier than bacon done in a microwave and even easier cleanup, so more sewing time,)

Basket quilt block printed with Inklingo

Inklingo Combo Layouts save fabric and save time!

A two-two-one makes a quilter look smart
And very often Inklingo inspiration sparks.
As soon as she downloads and prints
The combo creates more stitch addicts.

I printed all the shapes for this 4.5-inch Basket quilt block on only two pieces of fabric using the Combo layouts. Wow. Smart and fun!

Pieced or Appliqué Handles for a Basket Quilt Block

You can print the handle outline on the back of the fabric for appliqué OR print 3 shapes on fabric to piece the handle. I know I can hand piece perfect handle curves but I wanted to play with Louise. (I do love hand piecing curves.)

A quilting woman smiles all day long
And very often hums or sings a song.
As soon as she prints she can start
To do things that warm every heart.

Basket quilt block ready to sew

All the pieces are laid out and ready to sew.

Just a drop of oil to start each day
And she’ll purr for hours and hours of play.
Two-two-one stitches are pretty every time
And with Inklingo you’ll have peace of mind.

Chain piece on Featherweight

Love the lines. Quilt more!

Don’t let your friends say you have no taste
Go ahead and get one anyway.
Though she’s second-hand, give it a whirl
Take it from me, she’s a lovely girl.

Now . . . if you wanna be happy . . . it’s a good idea to get up and dance like Lily in The Munsters (also 1963) Morticia in The Addams Family (1963-4).

Herman Lurch will make your dancing look great, so you can even dance like nobody’s watching.

Featherweight and fresh air

Sewing outside. Working on the website inside.

Some of you may have noticed changes on the website (still a work in progress). That is taking up most of my time this summer but whenever I can, I am sewing with Louise, sometimes outside.

If you would like to try this too, please visit the Inklingo Basket page. There are Tabs now on many Inklingo pages and I am adding more, so please click on them.

There will be more improvements on the website soon. In the meantime, the Search function is working really well and of course, if you can’t find what you want, you can ask me.

Thank you for visiting, for singing and dancing, for leaving a comment, and for sharing with your friends!

  1. Dear Linda,

Well done you! Perfect (rhyming) new lyrics to some great songs! 🙂
However, I am very unhappy that I have not been able to get the catchy tune ‘if you wanna be happy for the rest of your life’ out of my head for four days now!! Aargh. I am starting to worry this will last ‘for the rest of your life’ too. I don’t even think a Featherweight and a LED light could make me happy at this point.
I am getting so desperate I am considering listening to ‘J’aime j’aime La Vie’ by Sandra Kim now just to replace the tune in my head! Aaargh…

  2. I’m so glad you mentioned the LED bulbs for the Featherweight – because that original bulb is hot! I’m thinking of getting a new foot control for mine as well, one that is easier on the foot than that little button on the original foot pedal! Sewing on the Featherweight just seems so much more fun with Inklingo’s lines – perfect stitches on perfect lines!

    • You are so right, Cathi! That bulb gets HOT. I replaced the foot petal on Louise too. The original one worked as intended but I was always searching for that button with my toes. I might have liked it better if I was wearing shoes when I sew. (Not likely. LOL)

  3. Oh Linda,
You put a smile on my face and a walk down memory lane!! I learned to sew on my Moms featherweight 63 years ago!! I think she traded it In towards another machine … but tu sure brought back lovely memories for me. Now to give your new basket pattern a look!!
