SEW VALSE BRILLANTE WITH INKLINGO!
Quilters are already using Inklingo to sew Willyne’s Passacaglia and Midnight Fireworks (both in Millefiori Quilts (the first book), but they also asked for Valse Brillante—and Quiltmania graciously agreed.
Inklingo for Valse Brillante is in the Shop now!
The instructions for this hexagon design and tips for choosing the perfect fabrics are in Willyne’s brilliant Millefiori Quilts book. Thank goodness Quiltmania reprinted it this year! Every one of the 19 quilts is exquisite.
Please see the note about the size of the Valse Brillante shapes on the website.
I made a very small adjustment, so when you piece this hexagon with Inklingo, each side is 3 inches—so you can use the pieced hexagons with other 3 inch hexagons from 300 Pieced Hexagons too!
There are also a few Inklingo lessons which you may find helpful for this charming design:
- how to sew hexagons by hand (includes video)
- how to sew hexagons by machine (includes video)
- how to use Inklingo for English Paper Piecing, 8 Good Ways!
Willyne’s lovely block is similar to Endless Chain (Beyer 401-1) but it has a hexagon in the center—on a tilt!—instead of a circle. (Endless Chain is illustrated in the Inklingo Smart Shopper’s Idea Book on page 49.)
Printing on fabric with Inklingo makes it possible to sew Valse Brillante by hand with a running stitch, by machine, or with English Paper Piecing (EPP).
I chain pieced the spokes by machine and added the small hexagon by hand with lots of “continuous stitching.”
Hexagons with no templates, no basting!
FACEBOOK VS THE BLOG—ARE YOU SUBSCRIBED?
If you have been following the Inklingo page on Facebook, you had advance notice that Valse Brillante was coming.
I post a photo or two on Facebook almost every day. It is usually about quilting, but sometimes it is something happening at Inklingo Home Office. I love to share photos of your Inklingo blocks too!
You do NOT have to have a Facebook account to see what I post there if you go directly to https://www.facebook.com/inklingo
However, Facebook only shows my photos to about 20% of the quilters who have “liked” the Inklingo Facebook Page, so the best way to stay up to date is to subscribe to the blog (top of right sidebar).
If you are on Facebook, please post photos of your Inklingo blocks on my page and please “like” and “comment” and “share” my photos. It makes a difference.
If you are just learning the pleasures of hand piecing for Valse Brillante, the two-hour QD2 lesson makes it easy. (FAQ about Quilted Diamonds)
By the way, here is Chopin’s Grand Valse Brillante. You can listen to the same waltz Willyne was listening to in her sewing room!

Thank you for the Chopin. Love your videos.
My love of Chopin certainly will enhance my enjoyment when creating this beautiful quilt.
Thanks, Linda, for providing us with the video for us to listen to as we Inklingo our way through this marvelous quilt. Betsy
I love the design and I think this music would be great to play while quilting. So relaxing!
Beautiful!
I can’t wait to waltz to my ironing board to get some fabric ready to print the shapes for this fabulous design!! I love the possibilities for different effects with fabric placement and oh, how I love Chopin!
This collection looks beautiful, Linda! That tilted hexagon would put me off if I was doing this with EPP, or even on my own if I was tracing and sewing by machine or by hand with a running stitch. Too much room for error. But with those matching marks from Inklingo, it’s a dream!
Can you imagine how much this would cost if you had to buy the papers for EPP? This is a steal for $15. Thanks so much for helping make sense of this pattern! The music is cool too… 😉
