Some quilters have asked me for help choosing between the two Inklingo shape collections for Capriccioso.
The original size made by Willyne has 0.75 inch squares. The shapes are quite small, so I also created a shape collection for a larger size with 1.25 inch squares.
You can see that changing the size of the squares has quite a big effect on the size of the other shapes, like the kite for the center star.
The large size makes it possible to sew at least some of the seams by machine and it makes more designs fussy-cut-able too.
The drawing is to scale. Big diff, eh?
QUILT DIMENSIONS
- Original size: Approx 35 x 48 inches (center without borders)
- Large Size: Approx 48 x 80 inches (center without borders)
The large size allows you to use larger designs when you fussy cut.
Normally, we like to print the shapes on fabric but Inklingo shape collections always include the shapes without seam allowances to print on freezer paper or other template material.
SEW WITH A RUNNING STITCH
When I fussy cut with freezer paper templates (instead of printing identical sheets of fabric for No Waste Fussy Cutting), I mark the sewing lines with a mechanical pencil, so I can sew with a running stitch. The other shapes have printed lines.
Sewing with a running stitch also makes it easier to get a perfect center intersection and the seam allowances press beautifully around the middle.
VIDEO This video shows how I circle the intersection by hand to get perfect matches.
I love sewing by hand but I don’t have the patience for basting and whip-stitching and removing templates, as required by English Paper Piecing. With Inklingo, I can just print, cut, and sew!
The instructions for assembling Capriccioso are in the Millefiori 3 book. Willyne teaches sewing with a running stitch, not English Paper Piecing, as I originally thought.
NO ACRYLIC, NO PAPERS
When you decide which size is right for you, you can order, download and start your quilt in the next few minutes.
There is no need to wait for templates to be mailed because you do not need acrylic templates or papers when you print with Inklingo.

I’m glad you are enjoying your new diamonds, Davene! Thank you for letting me know. You are lucky to have Driveway Barb to show you some cool tips too. I would love to see photos of your stars.
Oh my goodness, I wonder if I can start to stitch in my sleep. I am slogging along on La Passacaglia and have POTC and ribbon star beckoning already.
Thank you so much for the clear post on the two sizes, I was about to order the original size but thought I’d check here first, and I think that the larger size suits me, especially since I am toiling through all those tiny star points on La Pass right now!
Thank you very much, Joanne. I would love to see photos of your blocks too. You do beautiful work.
I just got my first Inklingo pattern and I’m busy making 6-sided stars. What fun! Thank you for the great directions.
