Springtime is a wonderful design for hand or machine piecing. Printing the shapes on fabric has many advantages over using templates.

Description

Springtime (Beyer 90-12) is a wonderful old design to piece by hand or by machine. My preference is to use both hand and machine piecing in a hybrid. I machine piece to get a fast start and finish by hand when I need a portable project on the go or while we watch hockey on TV and wait for spring.

Printing the shapes on fabric with Inklingo makes it more precise, simple, and fast than using templates.

There are wonderful opportunities for fussy cutting some of the shapes.

Springtime 9-inch blocks without Inset Seams

The original Springtime block design has inset seams and that might have been a factor that kept this very pretty design from being more popular.

However, this shape collection makes it possible to eliminate the insets (above). On the other hand, Inklingo quilters know that inset seams are easier than ever before thanks to the stitching lines and crosshairs printed on the fabric.

I will add design ideas for Springtime quilt blocks in the coming weeks, so please stay tuned.

My Springtime Quilt Design

Should I call it Daffodils & Bluebells?

This will not be a mystery. The majority of quilters asked to see the design first. That’s fine with me!

There are good articles (with music) on the blog:

This design is only 45 x 45 inches, so you might be able to find 4 fabrics in your stash. In that case, all you need is the Springtime shape collection to start dreaming of daffodils and bluebells! Or snowdrops and tulips? Or crocus and violets?

Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s alright
Little darlin’, it’s been a long, cold, lonely winter
Little darlin’, it feels like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s alright
Little darlin’, the smile’s returning to their faces
Little darlin’, it seems like years since it’s been here
Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s alright
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes
Little darlin’, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darlin’, it seems like years since it’s been clear
Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s alright
Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo
Here comes the sun
It’s alright
It’s alright
