This shape collection includes shapes for the old-fashioned Spool Block by Nancy Cabot (Beyer 186-2 and Brackman 1970). This old block has become popular recently as “Japanese X” because of a quilt exhibited in Japan by Setsuko Inagawa in 2011.
I was inspired by this gorgeous variation of Spool or Japanese X by Carol Skinner of Panama, who gave me permission to use photos she took of her blocks here and in the shape collection.

Inklingo Combo Layout 1 prints all of the shapes at the same time! It is a great way to use scraps from your stash.
I sew these shapes by machine unless I need a portable project. With Inklingo lines printed on the fabric, you can sew some seams by hand and some by machine.

The main Spool shape is the hexagon. This one is normally machine pieced.
