Looking for a portable project for the holidays?
Pieced Hexagons are my choice!
VIDEO
I re-watched the video . . .
. . . and chose 4 of the Pieced Hexagons.
I counted the shapes . . .
. . . and prepared a Cheat Sheet using the new 1.75 inch 60° Diamond shape collection.
I am keeping it simple with fat quarters of 3 fabrics but you can go scrappy, if you prefer.
TIP When I cut each size of freezer paper (FP), I highlighted it in pink, so I could keep track of what I had prepared.
I’ve been in love with Pieced Hexagons for a long time! It is a fascination that never fades.
I introduced Inklingo diamonds for pieced hexagons in 2006 and many hexie designs were featured in Inklingo Shape Collection # 3 (2007, sold out).
All of the sizes are listed on the Main Diamond Page on the website.
I’m only using these 4 shapes, so you can follow along with larger or smaller diamonds. Use a size you have already or try something new.
You can choose different Pieced Hexagon designs and still follow along using the tips and techniques I share here.
If you haven’t printed on fabric for a while, please review the short lessons under the Top Ten Tutes tab (above).
CHOICE OF METHODS
At this time of year, I’m looking for a new portable project, but you can sew these designs by machine too.
Sometimes I like to get a fast start by chain piecing some of the shapes by machine (above) and then finishing the rest by hand. It gives me the best of both worlds.
You can see how we sew these shapes with a running stitch in the videos on the Main Hexagon Page.
A running stitch is the easiest, most precise, most portable method but if you prefer English Paper Piecing (EPP), there are 8 Good Ways to Use Inklingo for that too.
Some of the tips will also apply if you are hand piecing any other design, like Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC) or any of the designs in Willyne Hammerstein’s Millefiori Quilts, so if you would like to follow along, please be sure to subscribe to the blog (top of right side-bar).
Love the lines! Quilt more!
FACEBOOK VS THE BLOG—ARE YOU SUBSCRIBED?
I post a photo or two like this almost every day on Facebook.
You do NOT have to have a Facebook account to see what I post there if you go directly to
https://www.facebook.com/inklingo
I hope you will have a look at the photos I have posted in the past few days.
However, Facebook only shows my photos to about 20% of the quilters who have “liked” the Inklingo Facebook Page, so the best way to stay up to date is to subscribe to the blog (top of right sidebar).
If you are on Facebook, please “like” and “comment” and “share” my photos. It makes it more fun for everyone and it makes it more likely that FB will show you more of my images.
I’ll share some tips for staying organized at the ironing board next time. Keeping it simple!
INTRO SALE PRICE
The new 60º Diamond 1.75 inch shape collection is only $20 until midnight on Thanksgiving Day (November 26).
If you have been following Inklingo on Facebook, you have already seen some of my Pink Pieced Hexies but I will share more here too.
I hope you will feel inspired to choose 4 Pieced Hexagons and prepare a Cheat Sheet before I post Part 2.
Thank you for visiting!
