Hunter’s Star Shapes and Sizes

It seems pretty clear from your comments last time that you like getting a sneak peek!

Sneakier Peekier!

We get sneakier and peekier today.

Then I have to get back to work, so this bit of fun doesn’t delay the day you can actually download Hunter’s Star and start printing on your fabric!

Ooops! First Things First

Before I go any further, I must address one important issue.

The glaze on Russ’s Apple Pie is 2 egg yolks mixed with 1 tablespoon of sugar. He brushes it on before it goes in the oven.

Whew. Now we can get back to Hunter’s Star.

3 Sizes of Hunter’s Star

The covers for the Inklingo website are ready.

There are 3 inch, 4.5 inch, and 6 inch units to make 6, 9, and 12 inch blocks.

Some of my quilt layouts use two sizes! Be still my heart!

(There were examples of Hunter’s Star Quilts yesterday.)

The Shapes

The images for the Inklingo website showing the shapes are prepared too.

There are 3 shapes in a Hunter’s Star block, but we added another one “for good measure.”

(Monkey thinks that is a pun because you don’t have to measure these odd sizes when you print the shapes on fabric.)

The square is an added bonus. It is used for some very cool design variations.

All of these shapes are versatile, especially the diamonds and triangles. They can be used for many designs other than Hunter’s Star.

Combo Layouts

Inklingo quilters love combo layouts—for good reason!

Combo layouts allow you to print different shapes at the same time. They use fabric very efficiently and make the printing go even faster than when you print the shapes separately.

There are 3 different Combos in each Hunter’s Star shape collection. The example above prints all of the shapes for two 4.5 inch units for a 9-inch Hunter’s Star block. (Fabric is 8.25 x 11.25.)

We think the Combos will make you happy whether your design uses 2 or 3 fabrics—or dozens of scraps!

(Of course, you can also print the shapes separately, as usual.)

Googling

Monkey says you should have enough info now to start thinking about your design.

For example, we googled Hunter’s Star and clicked on images. There are some fabulous Hunter’s Star Quilt designs to inspire you!

Your enthusiasm and your GREAT comments yesterday re-energize me to finish (Thank you!), so I am not writing individually in reply to everyone, okay? I am assuming that unless you asked a question, I should work on getting the shape collections finished instead.

The sooner I get back to work, the sooner these three shape collections will be ready for you, so that’s all for today.

Head down. Back to work. . .

  1. Hi Keirnan, Great minds think alike! I am still testing and tweaking and proofing all of the layouts. I just updated the image here, so you can check it again. This is one of the hazards of Sneaky Peeks—everything is not finalized and tested until the end. There have been several changes in the past few days. THANK YOU for checking!

  2. Thanks for the sneak peek! I have a suggestion for the combo layout shown above. Can you scoot the diamond pairs on the right over just a bit to make it easier to use a ruler to cut the shapes out? One straight cut can isolate the large triangles, but I can’t do a straight cut to then isolate the column of 4 diamonds without chopping off the tips of the diamond pairs. It looks like there is enough room to push the pairs to the right and still stay within the same 8.5×11.5 dimensions.

  4. Those are going to be so much fun to play with! I had EQ open last night playing with some design ideas and am ready to start cutting freezer paper and fabric. I love the combo pages as they make it so easy to do a really scrappy version. And that extra shape really adds some fun to the mix.
    I can’t wait!
