Buy a Quilt and Support a Good Cause
Will you be at Quilt Festival in Houston (October 14-18)? If you will, please stop by the AAQI booth to buy a quilt to support the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative, founded by Ami Simms. My little quilt (# 3442) will be one of a thousand for sale. You can see them all on the alzquilts.org website.
My Quilt for the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative
All of the quilts are small. Mine is 8.25 x 10.75 inches. I hand pieced it with Inklingo and added a little machine quilting and a very narrow binding. The batt is Hobbs silk. That is all nice, but two things make it a little more special.
This quilt was published in The Inklingo Handbook (September 2008), with instructions for making it with Inklingo, in hopes of encouraging other quilters to make or buy quilts to benefit the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative. You could buy the original.
The blue fabric makes it special too. It is the Kona Bay oriental blossom fabric that I used in Love & Friendship, the diamond quilt that is the subject of my first book, Quilted Diamonds: Jane Austen, Jane Stickle & Friends (2002). I have many happy memories of hand piecing that fabric with my Dad. It is the most special fabric in my stash, perfect for this worthy cause.
We are all affected by Alzheimer’s in one way or another. I admire Ami Simms and think she has made a huge impact with AAQI. Even if you are not going to Houston, you can make a quilt for AAQI, or buy one! Quilts are offered on the AAQI website every month.
This is our long Thanksgiving weekend in Canada. It is a good time to count our blessings and think about others.
Happy weekend, wherever you are!
