This quilt is an original design, hand pieced and hand quilted between January 28, 1998 and January 25, 1999. It was inspired by the 1863 quilt "In War Time" by Jane A. Stickle and the Dear Jane book about it by Brenda Manges Papadakis.

My dear friend Mary introduced me to hand piecing and to the worldwide Internet group of quilters at http://www.dearjane.com where I found friendship and encouragement and advice.

Every seam was done by hand except the first stitching to attach the scalloped binding. I worked to a schedule in December and January so I could have the quilt finished for our Naples Quilt Show and to show to Brenda Papadakis when I met her for the first time in February. It was wonderful to have three ribbons, especially Viewer's Choice.

In Time of Friendship was also displayed in the Vermont Quilt Festival July 16-18, 1999. It was awarded a First Place Ribbon Traditional Pieced Quilts and Best in Show from Outside of the U.S.A. and Best in Show.
