The Case of the Diamond Necklace Mystery Quilt – Clue # 1

If you have been following Inklingo on Facebook, you know that the game is afoot! The new quilt mystery has begun.

COTDN Clue # 1 (5 pages, PDF to download)

The Case of the Diamond Necklace Mystery Quilt

It’s time to don your best diamond necklace (mine was on sale for $7.50 US) and start playing with fabric possibilities!

SMALL FABRIC REQUIREMENTS

Some quilters love a mystery quilt but I know that some quilters are hesitant to start a quilt when they don’t know what it will look like.

This one has small fabric requirements but teaches some really big, fun concepts. If you follow this mystery you will learn a lot about using Inklingo!

The COTDN is smaller and simpler than the first two Inklingo mysteries.

The Case of the Secret Garden Mystery Quilt

The Case of the Secret Garden (1st Inklingo mystery quilt)

The clues for COTSG are still on the blog, free to download.

The Case of the Stranger in Margaritaville Mystery Quilt

The Case of the Stranger in Margaritaville  (2nd Inklingo mystery quilt)

The clues for COTSIM are still on the blog too, free to download.

Both of these mysteries are great for anyone who is new to Inklingo!

Inklingo 60° Diamond 1.75 inch Shape Collection

The Case of the Diamond Necklace (3rd Inklingo mystery quilt)

This time, we are using the shapes in the Inklingo 60° Diamond 1.75 inch Shape Collection.

These shapes are so versatile that we don’t think anyone will be able to solve the mystery before the final reveal!

Print diamonds on fabric

Clue # 1 will help you choose 4 fabrics, so you will be ready to print when Clue # 2 is released.

Monkey says you have probably already deduced that we used gold and platinum with our diamonds!

If you’ve always wondered about fussy cutting with Inklingo, the mystery quilt is an easy, fun way to start.

The new COTDN mystery quilt is very pretty without fussy cutting but I will be sharing more info about fussy cutting here.

Even if you won’t be fussy cutting this time, we think the new notes about fussy cutting with Inklingo are a very good reason to subscribe to the blog (top of right side-bar)..

Introduction to Inklingo

If you are new to Inklingo, there are step by step instructions and a new VIDEO on the Welcome to Inklingo page on the website.

Detectives really should review this short video in order to be ready to print in Clue # 2.

If you know anyone who is interested in learning about Inklingo, please let them know. The COTDN mystery is great for beginners AND experienced Inklingo quilters.

This mystery is NOT just for hand piecers! You can machine piece this one too!

This is a perfect opportunity for a “hybrid” with some hand piecing and some machine piecing.

  1. I am downloading my clues, but I will be late starting this, as I need to finish my first inklingo project (hexie wreath) soon. I think this mystery may offer me a breather from my second inklingo project, la passacaglia. Can’t imagine how long those rosettes would take with EPP!

The rosettes do take a while to plan out, so maybe I should make up a Go-bag with supplies to make these mystery stars after I get through the fabric selection phase.
I think it’s wise to always have some little kit or project as a take-along. Otherwise, I’m just lusting after projects on other people’s facebook feeds on my smartphone!

  2. Hi Whiskers,
Sherlock here. I just did some surveillance on your account. You don’t have this size yet. 🙁 It is a very nice size.
By the way, you can see what you have any time by logging into your account at http://www.inklingo.com/login.php. Everything is listed in alphabetical order in the right-hand column.
It is sunny and nice on the porch today but only 30F. I’m staying inside and so are the chipmunks (their inside outside, not in my house).

  3. Hi Sandy, You can choose any size you like. The instructions are written for 1.75 inch Diamonds, so you will be on your own with the differences.

  4. Hi Monkey,

When Linda has a moment, could you ask her if I already have purchased the 1.75″/60 deg diamond shape, or is it new? I think I left the computer in charge of filing things, and who knows where it got stuffed.

Thanks. I have no doubt you are out basking with the chipmunks on the patio.

  5. Hi Linda and Monkey (or should I say Sherlock?). I enjoyed and learned so much from the COTSIM Mystery that I know that I will love this one as well. Now to start going through my stash to find the perfect four fabrics!!! Thanks so much for offering us this opportunity! Hugs from freezing cold and snowy western Massachusetts….Brrrrrr

  6. Looks like fun. Can this be made with all diamond shape So? If we wanted bigger could we use 3 inch and buy more fabric?

  7. This is going to be such fun! Sewing six-point stars is so relaxing and – after fussy cutting – such a surprise as each star is finished.
Now to choose fabrics and decide whether I want sapphires, emeralds or rubies to play with my. Diamonds.
