Templates for Nocturne Quilt (Millefiori Quilts 3)

The templates for Nocturne, one of the stunning quilts in Willyne Hammerstein’s Millefiori Quilts 3 book are available in a brand new Inklingo shape collection.

Well, my friends, the time has come
To raise the roof and have some fun . . .

Nocturne by Willyne Hammerstein

Everybody sing, everybody dance
Lose yourself in wild romance
We’re going to Party, Karamu, Fiesta, forever
Come on and sing along!

NOCTURNE = QUILTING ALL NIGHT LONG

You know I want to add some music for new shapes.

Chopin’s Nocturne doesn’t make me want to shimmy at the keyboard. I am more in the mood for Lionel Richie this time. Let’s get up and dance.

Yeah, once you get started
You can’t sit down
Come join the fun
It’s a merry-go-round
Everyone’s dancing their troubles away
Come join our party
See how we play quilt!

NEW TEMPLATES FOR NOCTURNE

GOOD NEWS  If you have been using Inklingo for a while, you might already have three popular shape collections with star points, hexagons and diamonds for Nocturne. Hooray!

For example, if you have the shape collections for 1 inch 60° hexagons, 1 inch 60° diamonds and 1.0/2.0 inch 60° star points, you can make this quilt larger than the size in the book. There are other sizes too.

Many of you have all three shape collections, but this new Nocturne shape collection includes everything in one AND matches the book with 2 cm shapes—which is 0.79 inches.

I love the way this works out!

Also, notice the circles created by the rings of diamonds. That extends into the border too.  Red, green, gold and orange pop in the photo above.

Fussy Cutting Nocturne by Willyne Hammerstein

FUSSY CUTTING IN NOCTURNE

Of course, there is amazing fussy cutting—just what we expect from Millefiori Quilts, so it is perfect for Inklingo No Waste Fussy Cutting OR Inklingo Traditional Fussy Cutting.

(The new videos for Patchwork of the Crosses also apply to the designs in the Millefiori Quilts books. I hope you have seen those videos.)

UPDATE  I included very detailed instructions for two methods of fussy cutting in the new hardcover book, Winding Ways – Quilting the Inklingo Way. All of the info about fussy cutting, hand and machine piecing, and fabric requirements in my new book is useful for ANY pieced design. I recommend it to everyone, so I hope you will have a look.

Print on fabric with Inklingo

As usual, there is a choice of layouts to print on fabric (20 colors) or on paper or freezer paper, with or without seam allowances.

INKLINGO FOR MILLEFIORI QUILTS 4

I have used music to introduce several shape collections from Millefiori Quilts 4:

Millefiori Quilts 3 by Willyne Hammerstein

Nocturne is from Millefiori Quilts 3.

You need the book but you don’t need acrylic or papers. (Why I don’t sell acrylic templates.)

sew with a running stitch

I would compare sewing with a running stitch to a shimmy = move effortlessly; glide with a swaying motion. I looked it up.

(There are 8 Good Ways to Use Inklingo for EPP too but it is definitely not a shimmy.)

If you want to get in the groove with a running stitch, the DVD lesson in Quilted Diamonds 2 is a great way to get inspired.

NEW – UPDATED MAIN MILLEFIORI PAGE (UNDER THE SHOP TAB)

There is a major update to the Main Millefiori Page to include several more designs that can be made with Inklingo even though they do not have their own named shape collections.

You may not have realized how many designs in the four Millefiori Quilts books you can make with Inklingo!

Introduction to Inklingo

Now is a great time to start printing on fabric, so there is a free shape collection on the Main Beginner’s Page too. Stay home, print and sew with me.

SHIMMY ALONG

If you’re not shimmy-ing at your keyboard yet, maybe you need the Beatles (A Hard Day’s Night) or Elvis (Are you Lonesome Tonight), or Diana Krall (Dancing in the Dark). I considered them all for Nocturne!

However, 43 years ago Russ told me his favorite day of the week is Saturday. Now that we are at home all the time, it is hard to remember the day of the week but here is Diana Krall with The Heart of Saturday Night.

  1. Sometimes, I think you leave out those of us who purchased Collection 3 – the Hexie, Diamond, Triangle and Star Point in the 3/4″ 1 1/2″ and 2 1/4″ sizes. The only piece we would be missing for Nocturne is the Half Star Point that you don’t even have in the Star Point sets since you never offered the Star Point set in the 3/4″ size. I would save money by purchasing the 1/2″/1″ Star Point and printing it out in a larger size.

I read the previous post about the half Star Point, but still don’t understand why we 3/4″ Hexie lovers keep being left out since you offer 1/2″, 1″, and 1 1/2″ Star Points. How hard would it be to offer the Star Point halves for us who have Collection 3?

    • Hi Judy,
Thank you for writing! I’m glad you can still get the shape collection # 3 CD to work! Unfortunately, its days are numbered. I am able to update the downloads as technology changes but not the CD technology from 2007.
I will consider adding a download for 0.75 / 1.5 inch star points. There have not been requests for it until now.
The good news is that there are not many half star points in Nocturne, so you could use Freezer Paper for them or print the whole star point and trim. As you know, whenever a shape is not inklingo-able, I recommend using freezer paper templates, a la Quilted Diamonds.

  2. I just printed shapes for this quilt using shape collection 3. The only thing missing is the half star point. Is there a half 0.75 star point available?

Thanks for everything Linda. May you continue to enjoy good health.
