Why Quilters Love Inklingo for Millefiori Quilts DECEMBER 2018 - "The Guide to Millefiori Quilts with Inklingo" NEW ON THE BLOG

Jo-Anne's fabulous Passacaglia was sewn by hand and then beautifully machine quilted. It is a masterpiece. If you are lucky, you can see it at the quilt show at the ARCC Hall in Wagga Wagga NSW, Australia between October 30 and November 1, 2015. 1. Unusual & Beautiful Designs Every one of Willyne's designs in Millefiori Quilts is exceptional! With Millefioiri Quilt Templates from Inklingo, you can start AND finish Willyne's elaborate designs in a reasonable amount of time.
2. Simple to Decide How Much Fabric There are diagrams in every shape collection which show how many shapes you can cut from a yard of fabric. 3. Easy to Cut No measuring. No templates. Use a rotary cutter or scissors—and there are stitching lines and matching marks printed on every shape!
4. You can sew with a Running Stitch or by Machine Sew with a running stitch instead of whip-stitching over templates with English Paper Piecing! It is more portable, more fun, more precise, and faster! And the stitches don't show on the front! If you want to sew any of Willyne's designs by machine, choose the larger sizes. When you buy passacaglia quilt templates from Inklingo, I manually add the Hexagon Quilt Design Book ($20 value, PDF download). The design book focuses on 60 degree hexagons but the sewing and pressing instructions apply to the shapes in Passacaglia too. (Details) Sewing the pentagons and diamonds in Passacaglia is similar to sewing hexagons, so you can follow those instructions for continuous stitching by hand, precision machine piecing, and combining hand and machine piecing (hybrid piecing) for the best of both worlds—speed and portability.
5. Fussy Cut They are even more possibilities if you fussy cut some of the shapes. There are tutorials for two methods of fussy cutting with Inklingo on the All About Inklingo blog. - Traditional (freezer paper templates make Swiss cheese of the fabric) - Say No To Acrylic Templates !
- No Waste Fussy Cutting (print shapes on identical sheetsof fabric, similar to Stack ‘n Whack™)
Whether you use Inklingo or not, you do not need acrylic templates for any of Willyne's designs, just the book, a bit of freezer paper, and your favorite fabrics. Getting started is easy! It is also less expensive than English Paper Piecing. 6. Print scraps and Jelly Rolls Monkey shows you how to print on Jelly Rolls on the All About Inklingo blog. .
7. Sew Insets by Machine A new video on the blog gives my best tips for sewing hexagons (or any inset seams!) by machine. You can do it!
. . . and another video by hand.
8. A choice of sizes. The shapes in Willyne's original Passacaglia have 3 cm sides. Shapes with 1.5 inch or 2 inch sides are larger and easier to sew by machine. This diagram shows the size comparison for one of the rosettes. When you follow the instructions in Willyne's Millefiori Quilts book, you will see that some of the rosettes have a different number of rings. Size of center without borders: 3 cm shape collection, approx 46 x 58 inches 1.5 inch shape collection, approx 58 x 74 inches 2 inch shape collection, approx 77 x 98 inches Size with borders: 3 cm shape collection, approx 57 x 70 inches (144 cm x 176 cm) 1.5 inch shape collection, approx 72 x 90 inches with borders in the same proportions as the original 2 inch shape collection, approx 96 x 120 inches with borders in the same proportions as the original
Cathy's review: "I cannot imagine making this quilt using any other method. Inklingo makes everything about this intricate design go together perfectly, easily, precisely and quickly."
A simple running stitch.
LEARN TO HAND PIECE The two-hour hand piecing lesson in Quilted Diamonds 2 is like taking a private lesson from me. The beautiful book and DVD are available again. I am very happy with Inklingo. I have now printed four of Rosette 1. I enjoy your Diamonds method so much. Your instructions and DVD are wonderful. I am looking forward to going back to them with Inklingo. - Barbara in Perth Australia (posted on the blog)
(Fern's Patchwork of the Crosses is featured on the Main Lucy Boston Page.) Quilters asked for the design to be made Inklingo-able, so they could print the shapes on fabric or on paper—and Quiltmania graciously agreed! No wonder it is one of the most popular (and beautiful) magazines in the world!A NOTE ABOUT CONFUSING NAMES! Passacaglia is a Baroque music form from the 1600s which was destined to cause confusion for quilters in 2015. 1. Some quilters mistakenly think La Passacaglia is called Millefiori because it is on the cover of the Millefiori Quilts book. 2. There is also a Millefiore Quilt Along based on a book by Katja Marek, which uses different shapes. 3. Lucy Boston made a quilt called Passacaglia, which is in The Patchworks of Lucy Boston book. 4. There is a free Inklingo pattern by Tilde in Denmark called Passacaglia, which was published in 2009. "I just downloaded the Passacaglia Inklingo last weekend. I love it so much more than the EPP way!! Now I may actually get this quilt done in the next year and not in 15 years!!" - Chris in PA "Thanks so much for reminding me about your hand piecing lesson on DVD in Quilted Diamonds 2. I've owned it for a long time, but haven't watched it recently. I just watched it again. It's just as good now, I learned a lot (again) and have decided to make my Millafore hexagon quilt by your hand piecing method. I just don't like EPP, but I do like hand piecing. I will be recommending it to all my friends." - Cindy in MA (comment on the blog) "Tonight I did it.I printed the shapes for rosette 1 of my Passacaglia. It was so doable. I don't know why I thought it was so intimidating. For some reason had built this up as something to be feared. Can't wait to choose fabrics for the next couple of rosettes. I'm getting ready for a vacation and a retreat and plan to have plenty of stitching." - Arlene in NY "Once you start printing templates on fabric, it's so easy, it's done in minutes. I love being able to sew together the Passacaglia templates knowing they will fit perfectly. It takes longer to pick your fabric choices than print them. I spent ~20 minutes picking out two fabrics for the final two rings of rosette 3 and it took me less than 5 minutes to print them." - Karen in Nova Scotia IMPORTANT If you are new to Inklingo, I recommend starting with the FREE Diamond Triangle Square shape collection.
