Willyne Hammerstein’s Valse Brillante – Fussy Cut!

Yesterday I posted a few fussy cut Valse Brillante blocks on the Inklingo Facebook page and I mentioned that I use Inklingo to print a page of shapes on paper to make a window template, so I can preview fabric when I go shopping.

Inklingo Window Template

The window shows me whether the scale of the fabric is suitable for the Valse Brillante shapes.

THE KEY TO FUSSY CUTTING:
CHOOSING THE RIGHT FABRIC!

Timeless Treasures Orchid Orchid by Chong-a Hwang

I made a DIGITAL window template to play in Photoshop with this gorgeous floral fabric, which was designed by Chong-a Hwang for Timeless Treasures.

This is addictive.

I think I have to look for the perfect fabric for the small hexagon now too.

You should be able to get Orchids Orchids on Cream at a local quilt shop.

(No affiliation. I just think it is gorgeous and I wanted to show you how I use window templates—with a fabric that is actually available, unlike all the oldies in my stash that I have used for fussy cutting articles on the blog before—in the archives.)

I might try these orchids with the black & white fabric with musical notes (waltzing, of course) in my stash. (Valse Brillante.)

THE KEY TO FUSSY CUTTING?
CHOOSING THE RIGHT FABRIC!

The beauty is that once you choose the fabric, there are TWO methods of fussy cutting with Inklingo.

Millefiori Quilts by Willyne Hammerstein

By the way, Willyne Hammerstein’s instructions for Valse Brillante in Millefiori Quilts include great info for choosing the fabrics. She loves to fussy cut, but she took a different approach for Valse Brillante to get lovely shading across the quilt. Fussy cutting is optional!

This example proves that Valse Brillante blocks look fabulous without fussy cutting too. Very pretty, don’t you think?

Printing on fabric with Inklingo makes it possible to sew Valse Brillante by hand with a running stitch, by machine, or with English Paper Piecing (EPP).

I posted photos of more fussy cut Valse Brillante blocks on Facebook yesterday using a different fabric.

  1. Oh, Linda – that fabric is beautiful and just meant for some fussy cutting for Valse Brilliant. Just gorgeous – and I love what you did with your digital template to show us how well it would work!
