NEW Le Grand Désert from Inklingo

Le Grand Desert by Willyne Hammersteini

Le Grand Désert by Willyne Hammerstein is the gorgeous, fussy cut, blue and cream design in Willyne’s third book, Millefiori Quilts 3. (Photo courtesy of Quiltmania.)

Le Grand Désert is the name of a glacier in Switzerland. Many years ago, I visited Switzerland and was amazed by the incredible blue of the beautiful streams and lakes fed by Swiss glaciers, I am guessing that is why this stunning design is blue.

Templates for Le Grand Désert

There is a choice of layouts to print on fabric or on paper or freezer paper. The preparation is fast and you can sew by hand or by machine.

NEW SHAPES! FOUR SIZES! BE STILL MY HEART!

You asked for them.

We listened.

Le Grand Desert in 4 sizes

Le Grand Désert is an ingenious interpretation of Dresden Plate AND Star quilts by Willyne Hammerstein. Absolutely captivating.

I could not resist doing FOUR SIZES. They are on the Main Millefiori Page under the Shop tab.

  • Smaller – 75% of original – Approx 28 x 42 inches
  • Larger – 125% of original – Approx 48 x 70 inches
  • Even Larger – 150% of original – Approx 57 x 84 inches

NO ACRYLIC, NO PAPERS

The instructions for assembling Le Grand Désert are in the Millefiori Quilts 3 book, so you will need it but you do NOT need acrylic templates or papers.

Inklingo makes it easier and less expensive than ever to get started!

The Millefiori Quilts 3 book is still available on the website. It is my favorite of the three, and I think you will love all of the designs.

RELATED INFO

There are articles in the archives and videos that apply to Le Grand Désert.

There is a VIDEO on the Main Millefiori Page (under the Shop tab) showing how to sew Passacaglia with a running stitch. It also applies to Le Grand Désert and the other quilts.

Willyne teaches hand piecing with a running stitch. Sewing with a running stitch is fast and easy when you print the shapes on fabric with Inklingo. It speeds up the preparation, and at the same time makes the shapes more precise than with any other method.

FUSSY CUTTING TUTORIALS

There are many articles about fussy cutting with Inklingo using other designs as examples. These are two of my favorites.

  1. My friend, Debbie, and I both ordered our books last night. Since she is new to using Inklingo, we will work on our quilts together. We are excited. She ordered the 100% size designs, but I was curious about the size of the Dresden’s, so I wanted more information before ordering my design package. Sizes will be appreciated. :). Thanks.

  2. I know you listed the quilt sizes, but could you please give us the measurements across the Dresden shapes so we have an idea how large/small they are?

Also, it shows small stars between the Dresden’s. Are these stars part of the design package, or do we need another package to add these?

  4. OMG! Linda you are killing me here! This is beautiful, where will I find the time to make all these quilts?

This color combo is one of my favorites. The blue and white combo is the reason I purchased your books Quilted Diamonds 1 and 2.

O.K. so this book Millefiori 3 is on my X-Mas wish with the shape collection of course.
    Thank you Linda.

  5. Hi Patricia,
The quilt in the photo was made by Willyne Hammerstein. It is the original size in the Millefiori Quilts 3 book. The 100% Inklingo shape collection makes that size. I’m sorry that was not clear.

  6. In the picture you showed the Le Grand Desert, the lovely blue and white one, which size did you use: The 75%, 100%, 125% or 150%…

    Thank you.
