8 Ways to Use Inklingo for EPP

Inklingo Patchwork of the Crosses (POTC) by Fern in Singapore

Fern attempted and abandoned Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses about 12 years ago. . . . but her quilt is hanging at Quilt Festival this week!

Fern in Singapore wrote: The Lucy Boston POTC quilt is my first Inklingo project and i doubt that I can ever go back to paper piecing. The results of Inklingo printing are so accurate and easy.

Congratulations to Fern on a spectacular quilt and having it juried into this prestigious international quilt show!

Quilters who assume that she made it with EPP will marvel at how well she hid every single stitch!

Every one of Fern’s POTC blocks is a work of art.

ENGLISH PAPER PIECING OR INKLINGO?

Fern prints with Inklingo and sews with a running stitch now, but did you know that quilters who are devoted to English Paper Piecing (EPP) use Inklingo too?

Inklingo has significant advantages for quilters who sew with whip-stitches over templates, even if they don’t print the shapes on fabric!

There are two new links about English Paper Piecing today!

2. NEW page on the Inklingo website: English Paper Piecing Tutorials

We’ve added a page on the website with a summary of EPP lessons we have shared before. (You are on the blog now. The new page is on the Inklingo website.)

Video - Continuous stitching by hand

You might know by now that I prefer to sew with a running stitch instead of whip-stitching.

The video shows Grandmother’s Flower Garden hexagons, but it is the same for POTC.

With Inklingo, the prep is easier and simpler and a running stitch is more precise.

It is not often that you can get better results in less time, but a running stitch allows me to start and finish 3 or 4 Patchwork of the Crosses blocks in the time it would take to start and finish one with EPP—and the stitches are hidden in the seams!

The more you know about English Paper Piecing and Inklingo, the easier it is to choose the best technique to learn—and the best technique to teach too.

Inklingo is converting quilters from EPP to a running stitch one quilter at a time. In the meantime, quilters who love whip-stitching are benefiting from Inklingo too!

If you will be at Quilt Festival, be sure to see Fern’s wonderful interpretation of Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses too!

I wonder how many more masterpieces Lucy Boston would have designed if she had had the advantages of fabric and tools that we have today.

  1. Thank you Linda and Monkey and all for your kind words. It was so fun having my Inklingo POTC quilt juried and exhibited in Houston this last week. I had countless questions from so many at the Houston Festival (60 000 attendees) on how I made such a complex quilt so it was a wonderful opportunity to talk about inklingo and spread the good word. I am surprised so many have not yet discovered the magic of inklingo, but now a whole lot more know!

  2. I am trying the PTOC blocks and am hand piecing them.
It is a lot of fun and really rewarding when a block is finished.
